I have been in several cities since i have been a bunny owner/slave, and i have had seven vets. Dr Ness is the best one. His skills are broad and unparalleled, diagnostic, treatment and surgical triple threat. He has that rare ability to be able to explain how to care for your pet in terms that you can understand. Most important to me is his understanding of therapeutic hierarchy, that there is an appropriate treatment for illness as dictated by the patient.

We have been to countless vets for our ferrets. The majority of whom lacked compassion, knowledge, or experience. Dr. Ness is compassionate, experienced, and knows ferrets like the back of his hand. We drive over an hour just to see him, and if he was two hours away we would make the trip as well. I have only taken our ferrets to him, but would take any other pet to him in a heartbeat. He is a wonderful vet, and probably one of the best in the state of Illinois... If not the nation.

Dr. Ness treated my 19 year old cat for inflammatory bowel with acupuncture, homeopathics, and chinese medicine - along with some nutritional support for over a half of a year. My boy, now departed, did so much better once we started seeing Dr. Ness.
I only wish I had found Dr. Ness sooner, because I think my beloved pet would have had more of a fighting chance...
Dr. Ness really listens, hears, understands, uses his intuition, respects my intuition, and allows me to participate in making decidions about my pet.
The office environment is very soothing and the staff is wonderful. Dr. Ness is such a good soul - very compassionate and non-judgmental. He is caring and patient. My boy got such good love and care here.
Unfortunately, most holistic naturpathic doctors, including Dr. Ness, don't prescribe meds or draw blood which means that I still have to return to a regualr vet for those services. My boy needed meds for thyroid and blood tests to ensure his kidneys and other functions were normal - along with his thyroid values.
I wish this was a complementary medicine practice, but nevertheless, I trust and put my faith in Dr. Ness.
I highly recommend Ness' practice.

I highly recommend Ness' practice. We've been seeing Drs. Ness and Nye for our pets since the 1980's. We followed them from Midwest Bird and Exotic (when that used to be the go-to place for the best pet care in the TriState area), to their current practice in Lisle. If they moved to WI or IN, I'd still make the trip to them for anything beyond the most basic, routine care that the "average" vet can be trusted with.
Over the years, drs. Ness and Nye have helped our pets in many ways. Besides the routine care they've given our rats, turtles, etc over the years with them over the years (neuter/spays, common less serious illnesses etc.) they've worked some "miracles" over the years. A few that stand out in memory include:
Emergency, life saving surgery on a teeny-tiny finch.
Correctly diagnosing and treating a disease in a rabbit that multiple other exotics vets failed at (after which, we decided to follow them to Lisle)
Healing a rescued parrot who was repeatedly re-injuring his wing and needed treatment for both the physical damage as well as the emotional/psychological issues of past abuse that were causing him to re-injure himself before he could heal.
I love that they offer holistic care as an addition to conventional medicine, but if you are uncomfortable with it, you always have the choice to stick with only the conventional treatment options.
Dr. Ness is absolutely the BEST...

Dr. Ness is absolutely the BEST vet I have ever come across. He knows what he is doing, and is incredibly compassionate. I can't say enough about him. We took our bunnies to him for nearly 8 years, following him from the previous clinic to this one, and he helped them live very long and happy lives. They also offer holistic care, but they offer it as a compliment to traditional veterinary care if you are interested in it. I wish they offered regular vet care for dogs and cats, but then the exotics would not get the special care they deserve.

I was skeptical of small animal vets as I did not know much about them, since most seem to only see dogs & cats. The care my pet gerbil received from Ness Exotic was probably better than any that I've ever personally received from a doctor. I spent only 5 minutes waiting in the reception area, spoke to Dr. Ness for a good 25 minutes, and then received the medication within 15. I spent >50% of my time at the office speaking directly to the veterinarian. How often can you say that about a human doctor? After the appointment (about 2 days later) I made a follow-up call to the vet, which prompted a return call from Dr. Ness that lasted for another 15 minutes. I almost felt spoiled by the attention they were giving my gerbil. The whole time everyone at Ness Exotics was caring and compassionate. They answered all of my questions and gave me very detailed (and extremely accurate) information. I will continue to see Dr. Ness for all of my exotic vet needs, and I would recommend him to everyone.

All of these reviews speak the truth, his compassion is beyond words. When we've had chinchilla emergencies, physical & emotional, he treated them with care. I love the he combines traditional and holistic medicine.
I wish he took care of people, too!

I had brought my Guinea Pig to two other small-animal vets because she was staying in heat for over a month. Both of them would just get an embarrassed grin on their face and say not much we can do about it. Dr. Ness immediately said he can give her a hormone shot to reset her system, and that did the trick. When she recently got a bad case of bloat, he knew how to treat her and she's back in fine health. I had read on the internet that bloat is often fatal, so I'm glad he knew just what to do.

My husband and I went with our two babies, rats, to the open house at their new location at 1007 Maple Ave in Lisle. We have been seeing Dr. Ness for quite some time now and have found him to be a very loving and caring doctor.
Onto my experience, right in the middle of the open house celebration my one baby passed a blood clot through her vaginal opening. Dr. Ness didn't hesitate to take action and care of her, and us. He was very patient with us and we can't thank him enough!!!

You could not ask for a better doctor for your pet. I've dealt with Dr. Ness for many years & he is by far the best ever!!! I would never go anywhere else. He treats your pets as if they were his own and gives top notch quality care. I have alot of birds & he's given the best possible care to every one of them when needed. There has been a few times when I had seen Dr. Wilkerson because Dr. Ness wasn't available on that certain day & I have to say, she has given excellent care also. The whole staff is fantastic! Thank you so much Dr. Ness & staff for caring the way you do! You are the best & I want everyone out there to know it!

Theres really not enought room on this page to say all i would like to about Dr. Bob Ness. My Wife and i have 4 ferrets and yes they are a hand full. But if they show any little sign of illness we hit the #2 speed dial on our phone and call Dr. Ness. He has been taking care of our fuzzies for over 14 years and he will be our babies Veterinarin for life. Thank you Dr. Bob. Vince & Annie P.

I took my ferrets to Dr. Ness years ago when he was in Westchester, and he's still a fantastic vet. He did surgery on my ferret for a hairball and was not only very skilled, but compassionate and understanding as well. I'd highly recommend visiting him at his new location in Lisle.
